Salinity™ Salts: Ricotta-Stuffed French Toast Recipe

A surprising savory and sweet breakfast, offering a variety of luxurious textures. Our Lavender Honey Bee Finishing Salt seems counter-intuitive, we know, but once you experience how it prepares your palate for the serial sensations of creamy ricotta, velvety caramelized apples, and cinnamon spice, you’ll begin to imagine sprinkling it on top of...well, just about anything! Serves 2.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices cinnamon brioche bread, 1 inch thick
  • 1 cup fresh ricotta cheese
  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced
  • 5 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

(Homemade French Toast option)

  • 4 slices of desired bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 jar caramel sauce, store-bought or your own
  • Salinity™ Salts Lavender Honey Bee Finishing Salt

Directions

Apple stuffing and toasted Brioche

Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add brown sugar and stir together until dissolved. Add sliced apples in a single layer and cook until thickly coated on both sides, about 1 minute on each side. Remove from heat and place on separate plate. Slice cinnamon brioche to desired thickness and slightly toast.

Homemade French toast options

Whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon together in a shallow dish. Allow the bread slices to soak up the egg mixture, about 1 minute per side. Melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat in a skillet. Cook bread slices until lightly browned on each side, about 3 minutes per side. Remove from heat.

Ricotta stuffing

Stir 1/4 teaspoon of Lavender Honey Bee Finishing Salt into ricotta and whisk until fluffy. Divide the mixture equally and spread onto 2 slices of the toasted cinnamon brioche (or French toast). Layer apple slices, reserving a few for the top. Drizzle with caramel sauce and cover each with remaining slice of French toast.

Cut each in half and top with extra apple slices. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with Lavender Honey Bee Finishing Salt.
